My Own Worst Enemy A Memoir of Addiction -

Addiction is a gripping disease to which one can either succumb or overcome. Here is the story of a man who has done both with equal passion and despair. Join him on a journey as he finds himself lost in the deepest throes of substance abuse and later scaling the mountain that is recovery. My Own Worst Enemy offers a harrowing look at the very face of drug and alcohol addiction and the glory that accompanies one addict's vindication. Ronnie shares with the reader his most intimate trials and victories, from a childhood of abuse to the birth of his first child. At once painful and beautiful, his story is a testament to the strength and enlightenment that comes with sobriety and gives hope to those still struggling that they, too, can find freedom from addiction.

Misunderstood -

For an addict, perhaps the only thing more challenging than deciding to sober up is the struggle to stay that way. Ronnie was trapped in the clutches of his addiction to drugs and alcohol for years before he chose to get clean, but little did he know sobriety brought an even steeper mountain to climb, the summit of which is recovery.

In Misunderstood, Ronnie details his fight to stay sober. Highs and lows—from the birth of a daughter to the death of his grandmother—color his journey and at times threaten his resolve. But with the help of AA, a strong support network, and steadfast determination, Ronnie is able to embrace recovery and reach out to help others do the same. Misunderstood seeks to empower those fighting addiction with the promise that recovery is possible—a complicated, imperfect path with a worthy end. Ronnie offers no quick fixes, no magic bullet to emerge from the depths of addiction easily. But he makes clear that anyone can do it with enough motivation, whatever that factor may be.

My Own Worst Enemy A Memoir of Addiction/Misunderstood edition by Ronnie Steele Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I didn't even realize it until the end of the book but I was one of Ronnies roommates in rehab in Jacksonville. It was the mention of the animal crematorium next door that made the bell ring in my head. From an outward view, I never knew he was in so much pain but after reading this book, it makes me so happy to know that he is sober, happy, and with Sarah and Melina because he always said how much they meant to him. Good job Ronnie, I wish you the best of luck in the future!
